Police have arrested a 37-year-old woman in Tana River County and recovered a stolen Glock 17 pistol alongside other security-related items. The operation, carried out in the Madogo area, was based on intelligence linking the suspect to a recent violent robbery.
The firearm was reportedly stolen during a robbery that occurred on August 5, 2025. Following investigations, officers tracked the suspect to her residence in Bula Kartasi Estate, Madogo. She was escorted to the premises, where a thorough search was conducted.
During the search, police recovered a Glock pistol with a magazine loaded with 17 rounds of ammunition. Also found were several swords, a smock jacket, a police belt, and a wallet containing national identification cards belonging to the robbery complainant and his wife. In addition, officers discovered a Kenya Police Service Certificate of Appointment, a military identification card, and other items suspected to have been taken during the incident.
The arrest is seen as a significant breakthrough in the case, given the sensitive nature of the stolen items. Firearms and official security gear in the wrong hands can pose serious threats to public safety, as they may be used to impersonate security officers or carry out further criminal activities. The swift recovery of the items also reflects the value of timely intelligence gathering and inter-agency cooperation in combating armed crime.
The suspect is currently in police custody pending processing and arraignment in court. Authorities have indicated that investigations are ongoing to determine whether she acted alone or as part of a wider criminal network.
The recovery of the Glock 17 pistol and other stolen security equipment underscores the importance of stringent measures in tracking stolen firearms. Law enforcement agencies have reiterated their commitment to pursuing criminals involved in armed robberies, emphasizing that no effort will be spared in ensuring stolen weapons are removed from circulation.
This operation also serves as a warning to individuals in possession of illegally acquired firearms and security gear. Police have urged the public to report suspicious activities or persons believed to be involved in criminal acts, assuring that such information will be treated with confidentiality.
The arrest in Madogo adds to recent successes in recovering stolen firearms across the region, marking another step in the ongoing fight against violent crime in Kenya.
