Authorities in Vihiga County have arrested a woman found in possession of fifteen bundles of bhang during a targeted anti-narcotics operation. The arrest took place in the Mbihi area following a crackdown aimed at dismantling local drug trafficking networks.
The suspect was intercepted while carrying a bag along Mbihi Road. Upon inspection, officers discovered the carefully concealed bundles of cannabis sativa. She was immediately taken into custody and is currently being held at Mbale Police Station, awaiting processing and subsequent arraignment in court.
Law enforcement agencies have intensified operations against the trafficking and abuse of narcotics across the country, emphasizing that the fight against illegal drugs remains a top priority. The arrest is seen as part of a broader campaign to disrupt the supply chain of narcotics and curb their consumption, particularly among the youth.
The ongoing crackdown coincides with the government’s wider effort to eliminate illicit brews and drug abuse. Recently, a nationwide initiative was launched to target second-generation alcohol and narcotics that have been identified as major contributors to social and health problems. The campaign, framed as a 100-day Rapid Results Initiative, is directed at rogue manufacturers, retailers, and individuals suspected of engaging in illegal trade.
Security agencies have been placed on high alert to enforce compliance and take decisive action against offenders. Officials have also issued stern warnings to individuals in positions of influence such as politicians, law enforcement officers, and local administrators who may attempt to shield those involved in the illegal trade.
The campaign is framed as not only a law enforcement effort but also a matter of national security. Authorities argue that the sale and consumption of narcotics and adulterated alcohol threaten the well-being of communities, fuel criminal activity, and undermine social stability.
Communities in affected regions have been urged to cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities linked to drug trafficking and illicit brews. By working together, the government hopes to safeguard families, protect young people from drug dependency, and restore order in areas plagued by these illegal substances.
The arrest in Vihiga serves as a reminder that enforcement measures are being actively pursued, and offenders will face legal consequences as the crackdown continues.
