A 25-year-old woman was discovered dead in her home in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County, after what police suspect may have been a murder. The incident has shocked the community, coming just hours after the woman had hosted an overnight celebration for her child’s birthday.
The deceased, identified as Veronica Mwende, was found unresponsive in her bed on Monday morning. According to relatives and police, her body had a slight injury on the chin, though it remains unclear whether the mark was directly linked to her death. Mwende, a mother of one, had spent Sunday evening with friends and relatives during the party, which continued late into the night.
Her husband told investigators that she had gone to bed earlier than the rest, claiming to be tired. The following morning, at around 6 a.m., he tried to wake her up but found her unresponsive. Alarmed, he called for help, and it was soon confirmed that she had passed away.
Police officers arrived at the scene and secured the body, which has since been transferred to the mortuary for a post-mortem examination. Detectives have launched investigations into what they are treating as a suspected murder. They plan to question everyone who attended the party as part of their inquiries to establish what may have happened before Mwende’s sudden death.
In a separate incident in Laikipia County, authorities are also investigating the brutal killing of an unidentified man in Saiberia village, Nyahururu. His body was discovered abandoned by the roadside on Monday afternoon.
The man had sustained multiple injuries, including deep cuts on his cheek, back of the head, thumb, foot, waist, and chest, alongside a swollen arm, suggesting he had been severely beaten before his death. Police believe the victim may have been killed elsewhere and later dumped at the scene. With no identification documents found on him, the body was moved to the mortuary, awaiting post-mortem results and formal identification.
Both incidents highlight ongoing concerns about rising cases of violent deaths across different counties. Authorities are urging members of the public to provide any information that could aid investigations, as families of the victims await answers and justice.
