Detectives have launched investigations into the shocking murder of a 52-year-old woman found dead outside her home in Kimangu village, Rongai, Nakuru County. The victim, identified as Joyce Waithera, was discovered lifeless on October 27, with her body covered by a pink sheet. Police reported visible injuries to the back of her head, and blood was seen oozing from her mouth, nose, and ears.
According to initial police reports, Waithera’s son, a local teacher, told officers he had left for work early in the morning and was unable to reach his mother by phone throughout the day. Upon returning home around 6 p.m., he noticed an unusual silence in the compound and no signs of the usual evening activity. While approaching the house to keep his bag, he was met with the horrifying sight of his mother’s lifeless body lying outside.
The family’s domestic worker, who had been living with Waithera and her son, has since gone missing and is being treated as a person of interest in the ongoing investigation. Detectives are pursuing leads to establish whether she was involved or if she might also be a victim of foul play.
Inside the house, Waithera’s younger daughter, who had just returned from school, was reportedly unaware of the incident and continued with her chores until informed by neighbours and police officers who arrived at the scene.
Authorities have since taken Waithera’s body to the mortuary for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. The motive behind the killing remains unclear, though investigators suspect it may be linked to domestic or financial disputes.
In related incidents, two other murders were reported in Nyamira and Nandi counties. In Nyamira, a 42-year-old woman, Nancy Ongeri, was found dead following an alleged assault by her husband, who has since gone into hiding. Meanwhile, in Kabiyet, Nandi County, a 33-year-old man was found with a stab wound to the chest on a farm, with one suspect already in custody.
Police have intensified efforts to bring the perpetrators of these killings to justice and are urging residents to share any information that could assist in ongoing investigations.
