Detectives are investigating a shocking incident in which a 37-year-old woman was killed and her body set on fire in Pangani, Nairobi.
The woman, identified as Shelmic Wambui Muratha, lived on the eighth floor of Boma Yangu Estate along Kinshasa Road. The gruesome discovery was made after neighbors noticed smoke billowing from her apartment. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, forced the door open, and contained the fire. Inside, they found her body lying on the floor with visible burn marks and blood around it.
Upon examination, investigators discovered stab wounds on her chest. Preliminary findings suggest the assailant attacked her, ransacked the house, and then set parts of the apartment on fire in an attempt to destroy evidence. Only a few clothes and a mosquito net were burnt before the flames were brought under control. The suspect had already fled the scene by the time authorities arrived.
The motive for the attack remains unclear. Police are pursuing multiple leads and hope forensic analysis and witness statements will help in identifying the killer. The body was taken to the mortuary for autopsy as part of the ongoing investigation.
This incident adds to a series of recent violent killings reported in different parts of the country. In Soy, Uasin Gishu County, a man’s body was found dumped by the roadside with severe injuries. He had multiple deep cuts on the head, wounds on both hands, and a deep cut on his left foot. The identity of the victim is yet to be confirmed, and police have not established the motive.
In Maua, Meru County, a 50-year-old man named David Kiluingu was attacked at a local bodaboda stage. He sustained severe slash wounds and was rushed to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The assailant managed to escape and remains at large.
Authorities have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. They continue to appeal for information that could assist in bringing the perpetrators of these violent crimes to justice.
The recent spate of killings has sparked growing concern over public safety and the need for strengthened security measures to curb rising violent crime in various parts of the country.
