Detectives are investigating a shocking incident in which a 37-year-old woman was brutally murdered and her body set on fire in the Pangani area of Nairobi. The incident occurred on the eighth floor of an apartment block at the Boma Yangu Estate along Kinshasa Road, where the victim, identified as Shelmic Wambui Muratha, resided.
According to police, the woman’s body was discovered with stab wounds on her chest. Neighbours reported seeing smoke billowing from the apartment before emergency responders arrived at the scene. Upon forcing open the door, they found the fire partially contained but were met with the grim sight of the victim lying lifeless on the floor, her body bearing burn marks and surrounded by blood.
Investigations revealed that the apartment had been ransacked, suggesting the attacker may have been searching for valuables. Authorities believe the assailant stabbed the woman before setting the fire in an attempt to destroy evidence and conceal the crime. Only a few clothes and a mosquito net were burned before the blaze was extinguished. The suspect had already fled the scene by the time help arrived.
Police have launched a manhunt and are following several leads to apprehend the killer. The motive remains unclear, but detectives are exploring multiple angles, including robbery and personal disputes. The body has been moved to the mortuary for a postmortem examination to aid in the investigation.
Elsewhere, in Soy, Uasin Gishu County, another murder was reported after a male body was found dumped on the roadside. The victim had sustained multiple deep cuts to the head, hands, and left foot. The motive for the killing is yet to be determined, and the body has been taken to the mortuary for identification and autopsy.
In a separate incident in Maua, Meru County, 50-year-old David Kiluingu died after being attacked at a local bodaboda stage. Witnesses say the assailant slashed him before fleeing. The victim was rushed to hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Police are searching for the suspect and have yet to establish the reason behind the attack.
These disturbing incidents highlight a troubling trend of violent crime in different parts of the country, prompting renewed calls for swift police action and community vigilance to curb the rising insecurity.
