Detectives in Nyeri are investigating the brutal murder of a 25-year-old woman who was stabbed to death outside her shop in Mukurweini Town.
The victim, identified as Hilda Mukami Gathenyi, was attacked on Monday morning while on her way to her business premises in the Mote area. According to police reports, she sustained four deep stab wounds in the ribs, right breast, forehead, and right armpit. The lone attacker, whose identity remains unknown, fled the scene immediately after the assault.
Mukami was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. Her body has since been moved to the mortuary, where a postmortem examination is expected to be conducted to aid the ongoing investigation.
Authorities say the motive of the attack has not yet been established, and no suspects have been apprehended. The incident has sparked fear among residents of Mukurweini, who are calling for heightened security patrols in the area to prevent further violence.
Meanwhile, a separate murder was reported in Bomet County, where a Kenya Forest Service warder was found dead outside his house under mysterious circumstances.
The deceased, identified as 55-year-old Kipronoh Leitich, was discovered lying in a pool of blood outside his quarters in Kipsingei area. His body was half-naked and bore a deep injury to the forehead, believed to have been inflicted with a sharp object.
Investigators suspect Leitich may have been attacked after returning home the previous night. His mobile phone and clothes were found inside the house, and the door was left open, raising questions about whether the assailants lured him outside or forcefully dragged him there. His phone, which had been switched off, has been taken for forensic analysis to determine whether the attackers contacted him before the incident.
Leitich lived alone in the house and had reportedly prepared and eaten supper before the attack. His body was discovered by a casual worker who reported to the station early in the morning.
Both cases remain under active investigation as police continue efforts to establish the motives and identify those responsible.
