Authorities in Nairobi have launched an investigation following the sudden death of a Yemen embassy official who collapsed in his home in the Kilimani area. Mohamed Nabil, a 52-year-old attaché at the Yemen Embassy, died on the night of Sunday, May 25, after reportedly experiencing breathing difficulties.
According to reports from those close to the scene, Nabil began experiencing severe breathing challenges shortly before collapsing in his residence. His wife, who was present at the time, raised an alarm that brought neighbours to the scene. An ambulance was called and rushed him to a nearby hospital, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Family members of the deceased indicated that he had no known history of illness. His sudden death has since prompted police to begin investigations aimed at uncovering the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. Authorities have stated that they are working to determine where he had been prior to the incident, who he had interacted with, and what he might have eaten. These inquiries are expected to assist in piecing together the final hours leading to his death.
Police officers who visited the scene said that a postmortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death. The body was moved to a local mortuary where it will remain until further forensic and pathological analyses are completed.
This incident occurs at a time when Yemen continues to face internal turmoil due to a protracted leadership crisis that has engulfed the country in political instability. While it remains unclear if there is any connection between Nabil’s diplomatic posting and his sudden demise, investigators have not ruled out any possibilities.
In a separate but similarly troubling development, police are also investigating the sudden death of a South Korean national in the Ngara area of Nairobi. Shin Yoo, also 52, was found dead in the bathroom of a rented apartment where he was staying during a holiday in Kenya.
He had checked into the apartment alongside another South Korean man, with whom he was sharing the accommodation. According to the companion, the two had dinner together before retiring to separate rooms for the night. The next morning, when the companion attempted to wake Shin, he found his bed empty and later discovered his lifeless body in the bathroom.
Medical personnel who arrived at the scene confirmed that he was already deceased. Police who were called to the apartment confirmed finding the body in the bathroom. It was subsequently transferred to the mortuary for autopsy and further examination.
Authorities have begun probing the circumstances surrounding Shin’s death, although no foul play has been reported thus far. The South Korean embassy in Nairobi has been notified and is said to be closely following up on the investigation. Embassy officials visited the scene shortly after the incident.
Family members of the deceased have made arrangements for the body to be repatriated to South Korea for burial.
Both incidents have raised concerns and prompted swift action from law enforcement agencies to determine whether there are broader implications or if the deaths were isolated health-related emergencies. As investigations continue, authorities are urging the public to await official results from the ongoing forensic examinations.
