Lagos Fashion Week (LFW), Africa’s largest and most influential fashion event, celebrated its 15th anniversary this year, drawing more than 15,000 attendees and showcasing collections from over 60 designers, according to Vogue.
Focus on Sustainability and Ethical Fashion
This milestone edition emphasized sustainability and ethical fashion practices. Designers participating in the “Green Access” programme incorporated natural dyes, upcycled textiles, and indigenous techniques into their collections, reflecting a growing commitment within the African fashion industry to reduce environmental impact while preserving cultural heritage.
Showcasing African Innovation and Talent
LFW 2025 featured a diverse blend of emerging designers and established names, merging contemporary design with traditional aesthetics. Runway shows, presentations, and interactive installations highlighted Africa’s creative innovation and its expanding influence on the global fashion stage.
Omoyemi Akerele, founder and CEO of LFW, remarked: “Over 15 years, Lagos Fashion Week has grown from a small showcase into a platform that celebrates African creativity while pushing for responsible and sustainable practices in fashion.”
Industry Engagement and Global Collaboration
The anniversary edition also hosted panels, workshops, and networking opportunities aimed at fostering industry growth, supporting young designers, and encouraging cross-continental collaborations. With sustainability at the forefront and a growing international audience, LFW continues to cement Africa’s position as a hub for cutting-edge, culturally rooted fashion innovation.
