The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), in collaboration with the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), has opened the application window for the 2024/2025 student loan scheme. This financial aid is targeted at KMTC students pursuing certificate and diploma programmes and aims to ease the burden of tuition fees.
The loan is available to both first-time applicants and continuing students. KMTC has urged all eligible learners to carefully follow the application steps to ensure successful submission.
Application Process for First-Time Applicants
First-time applicants must begin by registering on the HELB website at http://www.hef.co.ke. Students are required to create a HELB student portal account using a mobile number registered in their name, a valid national ID, and an active email address. Upon registration, a verification link is sent via email to activate the account.
Once verified, students should log in and update their profile with personal, academic, and parent/guardian details. Supporting documents must be uploaded before proceeding to the loan application section.
To apply, students must navigate to the KMTC Student Financing Scheme, accept the terms and conditions, and provide guarantor information. A PDF of the completed form is emailed upon successful submission. Applicants can then monitor the progress through the portal.
For Continuing Students
Continuing students must apply using the HELB App (available on the Google Play Store) or by dialing *642#. A One-Time PIN (OTP) is sent to verify the user, and only mobile numbers registered in the student’s name are accepted.
After entering personal and course details, students must read through tutorials and a financial literacy guide, followed by related questions. They then confirm their phone number, accept the terms, and submit their application. A confirmation message with a serial number signifies a successful application.
KMTC emphasized that the entire process is digital, and no printed documents are required. The application deadline is June 24, 2025, and no submissions will be accepted beyond this date. Students are also warned to avoid fraudsters, as HELB does not charge any fees for loan applications.
