Media personality Kamene Goro recently sparked debate online after advising young women in their 20s not to restrict themselves to dating just one man. The radio host emphasized the importance of exploration and self-discovery during one’s youth but has since clarified her remarks following a wave of criticism.
In her initial statement, Kamene encouraged women to keep an open mind and date different people before choosing a long-term partner. She pointed out that the person someone believes is “the one” may not necessarily be who they end up with in the future. According to her, dating different types of people is a way for young women to better understand what they want in a life partner.
“Your youth is your time to experiment, go out and kiss all the frogs before you find your prince charming,” she said during her radio show. “How would you know what your prince charming looks like if you’re stuck with one frog? How can you know what you truly like in a man if you only date one?”
However, the comment stirred strong reactions online, with many accusing her of promoting promiscuity. Kamene has since addressed the backlash, clarifying that her message was taken out of context. She stressed that her advice was about dating with intention and responsibility, not recklessness.
“I feel like people are taking it way out of proportion,” she said. “I clearly stated this should be done responsibly. I didn’t say go out and sleep with everyone. I said date. There’s a big difference. People are acting like I encouraged young girls to be wild and careless, and that’s not the message I was trying to put across.”
She further explained that getting to know different people allows women to figure out what qualities they value most in a partner and helps them avoid settling prematurely. According to Kamene, the dating phase is vital for self-awareness and personal growth.
While some agreed with her perspective, others remained skeptical, saying modern women need different advice and that the dating landscape has changed significantly. Still, Kamene stood her ground, asking critics to “calm down” and consider her words in the right context.
The media personality, who married DJ Bonez in 2023, also shared insights from her own relationship. She credited the strong foundation of friendship with her husband for the success of their marriage. Kamene advised women to consider dating men they may have placed in the friendzone, urging them to look past superficial traits and focus on deeper compatibility.
Her suggestion to give friend-zoned men a chance was meant to encourage women to be open-minded in their search for love, especially since the qualities that build lasting relationships often lie beneath the surface.
Despite the backlash, Kamene continues to use her platform to spark conversations around relationships and modern dating. Her message remains clear: young women should explore responsibly, date to discover what works for them, and not feel pressured to commit too early.
