Detectives in Kisumu County are investigating a gruesome killing in which a tractor driver was murdered and his body found in separate locations within Koru.
The victim, identified as 41-year-old Patrick Akelo Amemo, was discovered dead under unclear circumstances on Tuesday. Amemo, who worked as a tractor driver in the area, is believed to have been attacked by unknown assailants.
According to police, a group of boda boda riders stumbled upon a suspicious package along the Achego–Muhoroni Road near the Kona Mbaya area. Upon inspection, they found what appeared to be the victim’s head wrapped in a paper bag and immediately alerted authorities.
A short distance from his residence, police later recovered his torso. Preliminary investigations indicated that the victim may have been subjected to severe physical harm before being killed. His remains were taken to a nearby mortuary for autopsy as investigations continue.
While the motive of the killing remains unknown, officers suspect it could have been intended to send a chilling message. Amemo’s rural home is located in Homa Bay County.
In a separate incident in Kimilili, Bungoma County, police launched investigations after a woman was found murdered and her body dumped along a roadside. The woman’s body, discovered on Tuesday morning, had visible injuries on her neck and face, suggesting she may have been assaulted before her death. Two suspects were rescued from an angry mob that attempted to lynch them and are now assisting police with investigations.
Elsewhere in Kapkerer, Nandi County, a man believed to be in his 30s died after being attacked by members of the public. The man had been accused of stealing bananas from a nearby farm. His body was discovered beside a murram road bearing injuries on his hands, mouth, and legs.
Authorities have condemned the rising cases of mob justice, reminding residents that such acts are criminal. They urged the public to report disputes and suspected crimes to law enforcement officers rather than taking the law into their own hands
