Rapper Lil Nas X was taken into custody early Thursday morning after a bizarre incident in Los Angeles, where he was spotted wandering the streets wearing nothing but underwear and a pair of white cowboy boots.
Footage published by TMZ appeared to show the “Old Town Road” star striding confidently along a near-empty roadway, engaging with a passerby who filmed the encounter. In the video, Lil Nas X repeatedly told the onlooker, “Don’t be late to the party tonight,” though it was unclear what event he was referencing.
At one point, the rapper theatrically demanded the phone from the individual filming, saying he wanted to “throw it far away” because he disliked phones. He then wagged his finger at the camera, warning, “Uh-oh, somebody’s gonna have to pay for that.”
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to AFP that officers were called to the Studio City neighborhood just before dawn following reports of “a nude man walking in the street.” According to an LAPD spokesman, the man allegedly charged at officers upon their arrival. He was subsequently detained, transported to a local hospital for a possible overdose, and placed under arrest for battery on a police officer.
While the spokesman declined to confirm the individual’s identity, images published by TMZ appear to show the flamboyant rapper placing a traffic cone on his head during the incident.
As of Thursday evening, neither Lil Nas X nor his representatives had issued a statement regarding the arrest. The incident has sparked widespread attention on social media, with fans expressing both concern for the artist’s wellbeing and curiosity about the strange series of events.
