Prominent Lawyer Shot Dead in Karen
Nairobi lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu was killed on Tuesday evening in Karen. Motorcycle assailants trailed him and opened fire on his vehicle around 5:40 pm as he headed home.
Police say the lawyer was shot several times before the gunmen fled the scene. His body was taken to Lee Funeral Home, and his vehicle was towed to Lang’ata Police Station for further examination. The motive for the killing is still unknown.
Passaris Condemns the Attack
Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris expressed shock and sadness at the news. She described the killing as tragic and senseless.
“I am disheartened by the tragic and senseless killing of Nairobi lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu, gunned down by motorcycle assailants in Karen this evening,” Passaris posted on X.
She added that the murder was more than a personal loss, calling it a direct attack on justice.
A Respected Legal Mind
Mbobu was a highly respected legal practitioner. He previously served as Chairperson of the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal. His career was marked by dedication to the rule of law and a firm stand on justice.
Passaris urged the police and security agencies to act quickly. “I urge the relevant authorities to expedite investigations and ensure the perpetrators are swiftly apprehended and brought to book. Justice must prevail,” she said. She ended her message with, “Rest in Peace, Wakili.”

The killing has sparked outrage and condemnation from the legal community and the public. Many have called for swift justice and improved security in Nairobi.
Detectives are continuing investigations into the shooting. For now, questions remain about who ordered the attack and why.
