Police officers in Homa Bay intercepted a major haul of narcotics valued at KSh117,000 after a dramatic chase along the Ndhiwa–Sori Road. The incident unfolded during routine patrols, where officers flagged down a suspicious motorcycle carrying three men and a bulky piece of luggage.
The rider, instead of complying with the police order to stop, accelerated towards Rodi. A hot pursuit followed, forcing the suspects to abandon the motorcycle and flee into a nearby thicket. Despite escaping arrest, they left behind their cargo, which would soon expose the illicit trade they were engaged in.
Upon inspection of the abandoned luggage, officers discovered a sack filled with 390 rolls of bhang (cannabis sativa). The narcotics had an estimated street value of KSh117,000, making it a significant seizure in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking in the region. The motorcycle was impounded as part of the ongoing investigation, and the contraband secured as evidence.
Police revealed that the three suspects remain at large but are being actively pursued. Once arrested, they will face charges related to trafficking and possession of illegal substances. Authorities believe the successful seizure has disrupted a key supply chain in the region, though they emphasized that more work remains in dismantling drug networks operating in Homa Bay and beyond.
Elsewhere within the county, officers also arrested four individuals in connection with narcotics. Several sacks of bhang were recovered during a separate operation, further highlighting the persistence of the drug trade and the urgency to curb its spread.
The seizure reflects growing concern over the trafficking of bhang across rural and urban parts of Kenya. Police have reiterated their commitment to intensifying patrols, enhancing intelligence operations, and engaging communities in the fight against illegal drugs. They urged members of the public to cooperate by reporting suspicious activities to local authorities.
With continued enforcement and public awareness, law enforcement agencies aim to make significant strides in reducing the supply and consumption of narcotics. The dramatic chase and recovery of the bhang in Homa Bay underscore the risks officers face in tackling drug trafficking, while reaffirming the government’s zero-tolerance stance against narcotics.
