President William Ruto has urged Kenyans to embrace unity and peaceful coexistence. He assured that his government will deliver equal development across all regions.
Unity as a Blessing
Speaking in Machakos County during the launch of the Eastern Kenya Integrated College laboratory, Ruto quoted the Bible to emphasize the power of unity.
“Where there is unity, God commands a blessing,” he said. He added that his administration will not allow any region to be sidelined.
Economic Revival
The President noted that the government had stabilized the economy after challenges brought by the Covid-19 pandemic.
He pointed out that the shilling had strengthened against the dollar, dropping from Sh167 to Sh129. Inflation, he added, had reduced from 9.6 percent to 4.5 percent.
“This stability has made it possible for us to roll out development projects nationwide,” Ruto said.
Development Projects in Ukambani
Ruto announced a Sh5.5 billion allocation for road construction in the Ukambani region. Another Sh5.7 billion will go towards electricity connectivity.
In addition, Sh45 billion has been set aside for affordable housing, markets, and hostels. He noted that the housing programme has already created more than 300,000 jobs for young people across the country.
Education as a Priority
The Head of State described education as the great equalizer. He revealed that his government has hired 76,000 teachers and plans to employ 24,000 more by January, raising the total to 100,000.
He also announced that the budget for universities and TVETs had increased from Sh45 billion in 2022 to Sh82 billion this year.
“Education defines the future of our country. We cannot afford to make mistakes,” Ruto said.
A Call to Walk Together
Ruto concluded by stressing that no part of Kenya will be left behind. He urged citizens to walk together as one nation with a common destiny.
