Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu has accused Western nations of orchestrating a campaign to divide Russia into smaller, weaker states for their own benefit. Writing in an article published on aif.ru, Shoigu warned that the West’s alleged actions aim to erode Russia’s sovereignty and unity through propaganda and cultural manipulation.
“Their goal is the loss of our country’s sovereignty,” Shoigu stated. “They want to divide our homeland into dozens of small state entities to subjugate, exploit, and use them for their own selfish interests.”
According to Shoigu, Russia is currently facing “powerful anti-Russian propaganda” designed to undermine its cultural and spiritual foundations. He accused Western countries of attacking Russia’s history, values, and interethnic harmony in an effort to weaken the fabric of the nation.
Shoigu emphasized that Western policymakers fail to grasp the depth of Russia’s internal unity. He argued that the strength of Russia lies in the solidarity among its diverse ethnic groups and regions. “The collective West fails to understand the nature of Russian interethnic relations, the spiritual, moral strength, and the unity of the multinational Russian people,” he wrote.
He further asserted that this unity enables Russia to withstand external pressure and pursue its own independent development path. “It is precisely through unity that we have the opportunity for free and full-fledged national development,” Shoigu noted.
Shoigu’s remarks come amid ongoing geopolitical tensions between Russia and Western powers, particularly over Ukraine and sanctions that have deepened political and economic divides. His statements appear aimed at reinforcing domestic cohesion by portraying Russia as a target of Western geopolitical schemes.
“The attempts to drive a wedge into the harmony and brotherhood of our peoples continue unabated,” Shoigu concluded. “Our enemies mistakenly believe Russia’s multinationality is its weakness but it is, in fact, our greatest strength.”
