A tragic fire incident in Nyeri County has claimed the life of a three-year-old boy after a blaze tore through a residential building in Kiamwathi location, Ruringu area. According to police reports, the child succumbed to severe burns and was burnt beyond recognition.
Authorities from Ruringu Police Station, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO), and the Kenya Red Cross responded swiftly to the scene. Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire originated in one of the tenant’s rooms, where an adult sustained minor injuries. The blaze quickly spread through the wooden and iron-sheet structure, which comprised 25 rental units, before firefighters managed to contain it.
Two adults were rushed to Nyeri Provincial General Hospital for treatment. One of the tenants suffered serious burns and is currently receiving medical attention. The body of the young victim was taken to the hospital mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination as police continue to investigate the exact cause of the fire.
The devastating incident has left the community in shock, with authorities urging residents to observe fire safety measures, particularly in densely populated residential areas made of flammable materials. Investigators are exploring possible causes, including electrical faults or unattended cooking fires.
In separate incidents in Bungoma County, police recovered two bodies under unclear circumstances. In Kaptama, the body of a 58-year-old man, identified as Titus Kwemoi, was discovered in a maize plantation with visible bleeding from the mouth. The motive of the murder remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing.
Elsewhere in Misikhu, the body of 41-year-old Moris Wekesa was found floating in River Nzoia at Stabicha village. The deceased had deep cuts on the head and neck, suggesting he may have been killed elsewhere before being dumped in the river. Police have launched a probe into the killing.
Meanwhile, in Baringo County, four police officers from the General Service Unit were injured when their lorry veered off the Kolowa-Chemolingot Road. Two female civilians who had hitched a ride were also hurt. All six victims were taken to a nearby hospital and later discharged in stable condition.
