Gor Mahia FC, Kenya’s most decorated football club, is on the brink of unveiling a new technical team after attracting overwhelming interest in its recently advertised vacancies. A staggering 148 coaches have applied for the coveted head coach position, underlining the stature and allure of the club, not just in Kenya but globally.
By the close of the application period on Thursday, July 10, 2025, the club had received a total of 539 applications across eight advertised positions. These included head coach, assistant coach, team manager, team doctor, physiotherapist, strength and conditioning coach, goalkeeper coach, and Chief Executive Officer. After an initial screening, 311 applications were deemed valid, with disqualifications resulting from unmet qualifications, language barriers, and duplicate submissions.
Club Secretary General Nick Arum confirmed that the selection process is now in its final stages. “We have reviewed all the submissions and will be considering 247 qualified applications following another round of review. From this pool, we will select the most suitable candidates for interviews across the eight advertised positions,” Arum said.
Notably, the head coach position drew the most attention. Alongside the 148 applicants are 21 individuals vying to be assistant coach. The candidates include a mix of local and international tacticians, including former Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards coaches eager to return to the Kenyan Premier League.
“We will assess all applications carefully and select candidates based on their qualifications, the club’s needs, and financial considerations. Some applicants may have expectations beyond what the club can accommodate on matters salary,” added Arum.
The appointment comes at a critical time as Gor Mahia continues a comprehensive restructuring. The club has already offloaded some of its technical staff and five players. With the new season approaching rapidly, Gor Mahia is keen to finalize the appointments to ensure seamless preparations during pre-season.
As K’Ogalo sets its sights on reclaiming regional and continental glory, fans await the unveiling of a new coaching team that will steer the green army to the next chapter of success.
