Despite being linked with a summer move for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, there are growing concerns that Manchester United may be heading in the wrong direction by pursuing the 22-year-old Slovenian forward. While Sesko impressed last season with 21 goals across all competitions, there are several compelling reasons why United should explore alternative options.
1) Manchester United Need Experience, Not Potential
With young attacking talents like Rasmus Hojlund, Joshua Zirkzee, and academy prospect Chido Obi already part of the squad, United are well-stocked with future stars. What the team desperately lacks is an experienced striker who can lead the line now and guide the younger players. A player like Sesko, though talented, would represent yet another long-term project rather than a solution for the immediate issues facing the team. For a club chasing silverware and desperate to return to the Champions League, investing in raw potential may be a luxury they can’t afford.
2) It’s a Risk United Can’t Take
Last season, Manchester United’s attacking woes were glaring. Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo, both midfielders by trade, ended the league campaign as the top scorers with just eight goals each. Bringing in another relatively untested player would only increase the uncertainty in a team already lacking in consistent goal threat. What’s needed is a striker who offers reliability and composure in front of goal traits often developed through experience in top-flight football. With pressure mounting on the team and management, signing an unproven player like Sesko could be a gamble too risky to take.
3) Midfield Reinforcements Should Take Priority
Rather than spending heavily on another striker, there’s a strong case to be made for bolstering the midfield. United’s central options have lacked the defensive discipline and balance needed to compete against top teams. A player like Brighton’s Carlos Baleba would bring much-needed steel and composure, potentially unlocking the attacking talents ahead of him. Addressing the midfield would help in both controlling games and relieving pressure on the forwards, thereby solving part of the scoring issue indirectly.
While Sesko remains a talent with great potential, Manchester United need instant impact and leadership on the pitch qualities that an experienced forward and a reliable midfielder can bring far more readily.
