AFC Leopards finally secured their first win of the FKF Premier League season after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over KCB at the Ulinzi Complex on Saturday. The result provided much-needed relief for head coach Fred Ambani, who had been under growing pressure following three consecutive draws at the start of the campaign.
Leopards got off to a perfect start, scoring in just the second minute through Boniface Munyendo. The midfielder found the back of the net from close range after linking up brilliantly with Samuel Ssenyonjo, sending the Ingwe fans into early celebration. The early goal gave Leopards confidence, but the match soon settled into a tense battle as both sides struggled to create clear chances.
Despite their dominance in possession, Leopards could not extend their lead before halftime. KCB, led by experienced tactician Robert Matano, reorganized after the break and came out fighting. Their persistence paid off in the 55th minute when they grabbed the equalizer, punishing Leopards’ lapse in concentration. The goal brought back memories of previous matches where Ingwe had surrendered leads to settle for draws.
However, this time, Ambani’s side showed improved resilience and determination. Eager to avoid another stalemate, they pushed forward in search of a winner and were rewarded in the 72nd minute. Christopher Koloti rose to the occasion, finishing off Ronald Sichenje’s pinpoint cross to restore Leopards’ advantage. The strike sent the Ingwe faithful into jubilation as the players celebrated passionately on the pitch.
After regaining the lead, Leopards adopted a more cautious approach, focusing on maintaining their defensive shape. KCB tried to mount a late comeback, but the Leopards’ backline held firm to secure the precious three points. The final whistle was met with relief and joy from both the players and supporters, marking a crucial turning point in their season.
The victory lifted AFC Leopards to seventh place in the standings with six points, moving them above KCB on goal difference. They now sit just four points behind league leaders Posta Rangers. With renewed confidence, Ambani and his squad will now shift their attention to their upcoming fixture against Shabana FC on Wednesday, hoping to build momentum and silence critics who had begun questioning their form and tactics.
