AFC Leopards is preparing to host an expanded and culturally themed Gala Awards ceremony in Bungoma, promising a larger and more vibrant event than in previous years. Scheduled to take place from July 21 to 26, the gala aims to celebrate not only the club’s recent achievements but also its rich heritage and cultural significance.
This year’s event will feature a wider range of award categories, including the introduction of the Ingwe Legends awards, which are part of a new loyalty program recognizing the contributions of club veterans and loyal supporters. The awards ceremony will maintain popular categories such as Player of the Season, Players’ Player of the Season, Fans’ Player of the Season, Fan of the Year, Branch of the Year, and Emerging Star, thereby expanding the scope of recognition across various aspects of the club’s community.
The theme for the event, “Our Culture, Our Pride: Showcasing Kenya through Football and Cuisine,” underscores the connection between sport and Kenyan cultural identity. To bring this theme to life, the gala will feature a “Cultural Food Court,” highlighting diverse Kenyan cuisines alongside traditional music, dance, and storytelling. This cultural immersion aims to strengthen the bond between the club and its supporters while celebrating Kenya’s rich heritage.
In addition to the awards and cultural celebrations, the gala will also include a tree planting initiative, reflecting the club’s commitment to environmental sustainability. An inter-county tournament for emerging players will be launched as part of the festivities, providing a platform for young talent to showcase their skills and potentially secure a future with AFC Leopards.
The partnership with Bungoma County Government has been pivotal in expanding the event’s reach and impact. Their collaboration ensures that outstanding performances from the 2024/25 season are duly recognized, and it supports the club’s efforts to engage with the local community more deeply.
Last year’s gala was a memorable occasion, with Victor Omune earning significant accolades including Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season, taking home a combined prize of KSh175,000. Fans and branches also received notable awards and prize money, highlighting the club’s appreciation for the contributions of its supporters.
Looking ahead, the club chairman encouraged members to participate actively in the upcoming club elections scheduled for July 29 at the Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani in Nairobi. Having served since 2019, he is stepping down, urging the election of capable and visionary officials to guide the club into the future. The gala and these elections mark a significant period for AFC Leopards as it looks to build on its legacy and pursue new successes in the seasons ahead.
