AFC Leopards are preparing to turn Bungoma County into a vibrant hub of football, culture, and community spirit during the second edition of their highly anticipated Player Awards Gala and Cultural Week. Scheduled for July 21 to 26, 2025, the six-day celebration promises an unforgettable fusion of Kenya’s rich traditions with the club’s storied football heritage.
Following the resounding success of last year’s inaugural edition, the event is set to deliver an even more dynamic experience. With the theme “Our Culture, Our Pride: Showcasing Kenya through Football and Cuisine,” the week aims to honour footballing excellence while promoting cultural pride and unity across the nation.
At the heart of the celebration will be the prestigious Player Awards Gala. Five major honours will be bestowed, including Player of the Season, Fans’ Player of the Season, Players’ Player of the Season, Fan of the Season, and Branch of the Season. These accolades aim to recognise not only on-pitch excellence but also the invaluable support from fans and club branches that fuel AFC Leopards’ nationwide spirit.
Last year’s awards were dominated by forward Victor Omune, who clinched multiple accolades, while Kaycie Odhiambo earned a loyal following. The Executive Branch also received recognition for its exemplary fan engagement efforts. This year, organisers promise to raise the bar even higher, with new features and activities designed to deepen community participation and showcase the club’s national footprint.
The week’s activities will take place at various venues throughout Bungoma County, with the iconic Masinde Muliro Stadium hosting key events. A highlight will be the inter-county youth football tournament, offering a platform for young players to showcase their talent and dream of representing the famous blue and white.
Beyond football, the event will embrace Kenya’s diverse cultural identity through a lively cultural food court, traditional music and dance performances, storytelling sessions, and displays of indigenous arts. This will allow fans and visitors to savour the full spectrum of Kenya’s ethnic richness.
Further cementing its community-first approach, AFC Leopards has included outreach activities such as tree planting drives and Mashinani initiatives to empower and engage locals beyond the football pitch.
The celebrations will culminate in a glittering Gala Night, where club legends will be honoured and emerging talents recognised, wrapping up the week in style.
AFC Leopards are positioning themselves as more than just a football club they are fostering a cultural movement that connects Kenyans through shared passion, identity, and pride. As fans prepare to gather from across the country and abroad, Bungoma is set to host a truly iconic convergence of sport, culture, and community.
