Kenyan international defender Alphonce Omija has officially bid farewell to Gor Mahia, confirming his move to Tunisian powerhouse Etoile du Sahel. The 22-year-old centre-back penned an emotional message to fans and the club, marking the end of a chapter that began when he came through the Gor Mahia Youth system.
In his farewell note, Omija expressed deep gratitude to the Green Army supporters, describing Gor Mahia as his “forever home.” He reflected on his one-year spell at the club as a period filled with pride, emotions, and unforgettable battles. His words resonated with supporters who had embraced him since his return in 2024, highlighting the bond he built with the team and its faithful fans.

Omija’s move to Etoile du Sahel marks a significant step in his career. The Tunisian side, 11-time domestic champions and two-time CAF Confederation Cup winners, provide the defender with an opportunity to test himself at a higher level of competition. His decision came after rejecting a contract extension with Gor Mahia, opting instead to challenge himself in North African football.

The centre-back’s rise has been steady and determined. From his early days at Gor Mahia Youth, he went on to establish himself at Kariobangi Sharks, where he won the FKF Cup in 2018. A stint with Oman’s Dhofar FC added international exposure before his return to Gor Mahia, where he became a crucial part of their backline in the 2024 season.
On the international stage, Omija has already made his mark. He impressed at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), where Kenya topped a tough group featuring Morocco, DR Congo, Zambia, and Angola. His composure and discipline earned him recognition, and shortly after, he made his senior Harambee Stars debut in a World Cup qualifier against Ivory Coast.

With his transfer now complete, Omija embarks on a new chapter that symbolizes both ambition and maturity. His farewell letter may have closed the Gor Mahia chapter, but it has also opened the door to a promising future in Tunisian and continental football.
