Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has called for calm and focus ahead of his team’s Premier League clash against Brighton, following last weekend’s dramatic victory over Liverpool at Anfield.
United secured their first win at Anfield since 2016, with Harry Maguire’s late header sealing a memorable 2-1 triumph. The result marked Amorim’s first back-to-back league wins since taking charge, signaling signs of progress under the Portuguese coach.
Despite the emotional high, Amorim urged his players and fans to remain grounded. “We use the good spirit of winning games,” he said. “It was a good weekend for us, but our focus must stay on the next game.”
The manager highlighted the fine margins that define football results, noting that Cody Gakpo came close to equalizing for Liverpool. “If Gakpo shot 20 centimetres differently, the narrative would be completely different,” Amorim said. “We must maintain calm and direction in what we are doing.”
He also acknowledged the pressure that comes with managing a club of United’s stature. “At a club like this, if you don’t win often, people doubt you. My focus is on keeping our path clear and consistent, not changing because of one result.”
United’s next challenge comes against a Brighton side that has historically troubled them, winning six of the last eight meetings, including three consecutive victories at Old Trafford. Amorim expects a difficult test. “Brighton are a very complete team. We need to be smart and focused in everything we do,” he stated.
Saturday’s match will also be a special occasion for captain Bruno Fernandes, who is set to make his 300th appearance for the club. Amorim praised Fernandes’ leadership and mentality, admitting the midfielder had surprised him. “He always wants responsibility and takes losses personally. His frustration comes from wanting to help. He’s a great leader and a great footballer,” Amorim said.
As United look to continue their revival, Amorim’s emphasis on composure and consistency could prove vital in sustaining their recent momentum.
