Liverpool’s struggles in the Premier League deepened as they suffered a 3-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest, their sixth loss in seven league games. The defeat highlighted the champions’ ongoing malaise, leaving the club searching for answers.
Head coach Arne Slot accepted full responsibility for the result, refusing to deflect blame onto refereeing decisions or other external factors. “No one wants to hear about refereeing decisions when you lose 3-0 at home to Forest,” Slot admitted. “I should look at myself first and my team. There is a way out, especially with the quality players we have, but I am responsible for the current losses. That is far from good enough.”
The match saw Forest, who were in the relegation zone before kickoff, produce the biggest victory at Anfield in their history. Liverpool’s record signing, Alexander Isak, again failed to make an impact, while Forest’s opener through Murillo set the tone. Slot emphasized that the goal shifted momentum and disrupted Liverpool’s attacking rhythm.
Despite early dominance in the first half-hour, Liverpool’s finishing let them down, and the team was unable to recover after conceding. “I haven’t seen us creating so much in the opening half-hour maybe the whole season, and the first time they arrived in our box they scored,” Slot said. “It’s almost constantly that we miss our chances and the ones we concede go in.”
Slot also reflected on his tactical decisions, including attacking substitutions in an attempt to chase the game. He acknowledged that while some moves had worked previously, they backfired this time. “It was brave, now it’s probably stupid,” he said.
The result is a historic low for Liverpool at Anfield. The team last lost successive home league games to Forest in 1963 and had not suffered back-to-back league defeats by a three-goal margin since 1965.
Slot remains focused on solutions rather than excuses, urging his team to adjust and improve. “No matter if you win or lose, you are always thinking: ‘Where can we do better, where can we adjust?’ But that is something else from doubting yourself. I am responsible for the results, and we have to find a way forward,” he said.
Liverpool now face mounting pressure to turn around their form and regain confidence as the Premier League season enters its critical stages.
