Arsenal have reportedly taken a significant step in their pursuit of Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres, as they explore alternatives to Benjamin Sesko. The Gunners, who have long admired the Swedish forward, are believed to have initiated formal talks with his representatives, signalling a growing interest in bringing him to the Emirates Stadium.
While RB Leipzig’s Sesko remains a top target for Arsenal, the club is preparing for the possibility that a deal may not materialize. In that scenario, Gyokeres has emerged as a primary alternative. The 26-year-old striker enjoyed a standout season in Portugal, and his performances have not gone unnoticed across Europe.
Gyokeres is said to be enthusiastic about the idea of playing in the Premier League and sees Arsenal as a highly attractive destination. Though official negotiations with Sporting Lisbon have not yet commenced, an offer from the North London club is expected in the near future. The player is reportedly keeping a close eye on developments and is hopeful a move will materialize this summer.
The Gunners are not the only ones monitoring the situation closely. Manchester United also retain a strong interest in Gyokeres, having previously explored the possibility of signing him. Club president Frederico Varandas has made it clear that Gyokeres will not be allowed to leave for anything less than €60 million plus €10 million in add-ons. Despite growing interest, Varandas insists that no official offers have been received, although several clubs have reached out to the player’s camp to gather detailed information as they prepare their bids.
