Bayern Munich continued their flawless start to the Bundesliga season with a 2-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund in a thrilling Klassiker encounter. Harry Kane was once again the difference, scoring his 12th league goal of the season and setting up another as Bayern recorded their seventh straight league win to move five points clear at the top.
Kane opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, glancing in a Joshua Kimmich corner to give Bayern a deserved lead. The hosts dominated early on but were forced to endure heavy pressure in the second half as Dortmund pushed for an equaliser. Felix Nmecha went close before Karim Adeyemi missed a clear chance to level. Bayern’s resilience paid off when Kane produced a brilliant 60-metre pass to release Luis Díaz, whose cross was partially cleared by Jobe Bellingham. Michael Olise reacted quickest to slot home Bayern’s second in the 79th minute. Dortmund responded through Julian Brandt’s late tap-in but could not find a leveller despite sustained pressure.
Elsewhere in Germany, Bayer Leverkusen extended their record unbeaten run on the road with a dramatic 4-3 win at Mainz. Alejandro Grimaldo netted twice in the first half to set the tone for another entertaining performance from Xabi Alonso’s side.
In Spain, Barcelona left it late to overcome Girona 2-1, thanks to Ronald Araújo’s stoppage-time winner. Pedri gave the hosts an early lead after combining smartly with Lamine Yamal, but Girona hit back through Axel Witsel’s acrobatic effort. The visitors battled throughout, but Araújo’s header deep into injury time sealed a vital win. His celebration earned him a yellow card, while manager Hansi Flick was sent off moments earlier for dissent.
Atlético Madrid climbed to fourth with a narrow 1-0 triumph over Osasuna. Thiago Almada scored the decisive goal after being set up by Giuliano Simeone, while Jan Oblak preserved the points with a fine late save from Ante Budimir. Villarreal, meanwhile, surrendered a two-goal advantage against Real Betis as Antony struck twice – including a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser – to snatch a 2-2 draw.
In Italy, Inter edged Roma 1-0 courtesy of Ange-Yoan Bonny’s early goal from Nicolò Barella’s pass. The win pulled Inter level on 15 points with Roma and Napoli at the top. Napoli, however, faltered with a 1-0 defeat at Torino, as Giovanni Simeone’s first-half goal proved decisive in a match where the champions struggled without injured duo Scott McTominay and Rasmus Højlund.
