German giants Bayern Munich have reached an agreement to sign Liverpool winger Luis Diaz in a deal worth £65.5 million. The Colombian international is now set to join the Bundesliga champions after weeks of speculation surrounding his future at Anfield.
Bayern had previously seen an initial £59 million bid rejected, but their improved offer has now been accepted. Diaz has reportedly left Liverpool’s pre-season tour of Asia to undergo a medical and finalize the move.
Having joined Liverpool from Porto in January 2022, Diaz quickly established himself as a key player under former manager Jürgen Klopp and has continued to impress under current boss Arne Slot. During the 2024–25 season, the 28-year-old scored 17 goals in 50 appearances across all competitions, playing a pivotal role in Liverpool’s successful Premier League title campaign their first in five years.
Despite his contributions, Diaz was left out of Liverpool’s recent pre-season friendly against AC Milan in Hong Kong, further fueling speculation about his departure. The club’s manager cited the need to manage the ongoing transfer noise around the player and his close communication with the squad.
For Bayern, the signing comes at a critical time as they look to reinforce their attack following the long-term injury of star forward Jamal Musiala. The German international suffered a broken leg and dislocated ankle during the Club World Cup and is expected to be sidelined for an extended period. Diaz’s arrival offers a high-quality and versatile replacement capable of filling the void left by Musiala’s absence.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have been active in the summer transfer market. The club has strengthened its attacking lineup with the signings of Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz and Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike. Defensive reinforcements have also arrived in the form of Jeremie Frimpong from Leverkusen and Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth. Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili has joined from Valencia to provide further depth.
There is also interest from Liverpool in Newcastle United’s striker Alexander Isak. The Swedish forward is reportedly valued at £150 million, and the Reds are weighing up whether to pursue a bid.
Luis Diaz’s impending departure marks the end of a successful chapter at Liverpool and the beginning of a new one at Bayern Munich, where he will look to make an immediate impact in the Bundesliga.
