Bojan Bogdanovic, one of Europe’s most renowned sharpshooters, has officially moved on from his NBA career, setting his sights on new challenges, including the upcoming EuroBasket and the ECOMMBX Cup in Cyprus. After a decade in the NBA, the 36-year-old Croatian star is focusing on international basketball, aiming to make a strong impact with his national team.
The Serbian national team, which includes his brother Bogdan Bogdanovic, is preparing for the ECOMMBX Cup, scheduled for August 9th and 10th at the newly renovated Spyros Kyprianou Athletic Center in Limassol, Cyprus. This four-nation tournament will feature Greece, Serbia, Israel, and Cyprus, all of whom are using the event as a crucial warm-up ahead of EuroBasket 2025. With each team set to play two games, fans will witness high-level basketball, featuring top European stars vying to fine-tune their form before the continental showdown.
For Bogdanovic, the tournament represents a new chapter after an injury-ridden final NBA season. He emphasized the importance of the ECOMMBX Cup, highlighting how the games will help the Serbian team build chemistry, test different lineups, and gauge their readiness against other EuroBasket contenders. He expressed confidence and excitement about competing on European soil again, especially in a setting that allows him to reconnect with the style of play that first launched his career.
Bogdanovic’s retirement from the NBA in June marked the end of an impressive run. Selected 31st overall in the 2011 NBA Draft, he made his league debut with the Brooklyn Nets in 2014 after a successful stint in the EuroLeague. Known for his exceptional three-point shooting and offensive versatility, he became a consistent scoring threat throughout his career. Over ten seasons, he played for the Brooklyn Nets, Washington Wizards, Indiana Pacers, Utah Jazz, Detroit Pistons, and finally, the New York Knicks.
He missed the 2024–25 season due to a lingering foot injury, and before the 2024 season began, he was traded to the Nets by the Knicks but was later waived. By the time he decided to retire, he had logged 719 regular-season games, averaging 15.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game, while shooting an impressive 39.4% from beyond the arc.
Now fully focused on international basketball, Bogdanovic remains a key figure in European basketball circles. His leadership and experience will be crucial as Serbia and other top teams prepare to battle for continental glory in EuroBasket 2025.
