Bryan Mbeumo has completed a high-profile move from Brentford to Manchester United for an initial fee of £65 million. The 25-year-old winger has signed a five-year contract, with the option of an additional year. His arrival marks the club’s third major signing of the summer, following the acquisitions of Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon.
The transfer concluded a lengthy seven-week pursuit, with United finally agreeing to Brentford’s terms after having two earlier bids rejected. The final offer included a £65 million base fee and £6 million in add-ons. This deal sets a new record for Brentford’s biggest sale, surpassing the £40 million fee they received for Ivan Toney in 2024.

Mbeumo expressed his excitement at joining the club he supported as a boy, calling it a dream come true. He emphasized his determination to improve further, citing the chance to work under manager Ruben Amorim and play alongside world-class talent as a major motivator. Mbeumo believes that United’s plans for the future, combined with the passion of the fans and the iconic nature of the club, will help him take his game to another level.
Last season, Mbeumo delivered his best-ever campaign, scoring 20 goals and providing seven assists in the Premier League. Known for his versatility and creativity, he also excelled in advanced attacking metrics such as chances created, touches in the opposition box, and shot conversion rate 23.53%, one of the best in the league. Additionally, his defensive contributions were notable, ranking third for ball recoveries in the opposition’s third, while leading the league in progressive ball carries resulting in goals.

The negotiations for Mbeumo’s transfer were challenging, with Brentford reportedly preferring a move to Tottenham or Newcastle, who were expected to pay a higher fee. However, Manchester United’s persistence and the player’s desire to join them ultimately sealed the deal.
Mbeumo will wear the number 19 shirt at Old Trafford and is set to join the squad for their pre-season tour of the United States. This signing is considered a statement of intent for United, who are aiming to rebuild after a disappointing 15th-place finish last season. Bringing in a player of Mbeumo’s caliber, despite missing out on Champions League football, is seen as a major win for the club’s recruitment team.
