Brentford have turned down a second offer from Manchester United for Bryan Mbeumo, underlining their determination to retain the in-demand winger despite growing interest from several Premier League giants. The bid, believed to be in the region of £62.5 million, was rejected, but the player has reportedly made his stance clear he only wants a move to Old Trafford.
Manchester United’s interest in Mbeumo stems from new manager Ruben Amorim’s desire to strengthen the club’s attack ahead of the new season. Mbeumo enjoyed a prolific campaign, scoring 20 Premier League goals and emerging as one of the most reliable forwards in the league. His goal-scoring exploits have caught the eye of several clubs, including Arsenal, Newcastle, and Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham had hoped to capitalise on their recent appointment of Thomas Frank Mbeumo’s long-time manager at Brentford to tempt the player into a reunion in north London. However, Mbeumo has reportedly informed both Brentford and Tottenham that he is set on joining United and sees Old Trafford as the ideal next step in his career.
United, meanwhile, are under pressure to improve their attacking output after registering just 44 league goals last season one of their worst tallies in Premier League history. Securing a proven scorer like Mbeumo has become a top priority, especially with pre-season training fast approaching in early July.
The Cameroonian forward has been a standout performer for Brentford since arriving in 2019 for just £5.8 million. Over six seasons, he has netted 70 goals in 242 appearances across all competitions, including 42 goals in 136 Premier League games. His consistent output and versatility in attack have made him one of the most sought-after players in the summer transfer window.
Despite his contract running until 2026, Brentford have the option to extend his stay by a further year. This gives the club some leverage in negotiations, although they may be forced to consider a sale if Mbeumo remains firm on his desire to leave.
If Manchester United can strike a deal with Brentford, Mbeumo would become the club’s second signing of the summer following the recent arrival of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha, who also joined for £62.5 million.
