Tusker FC midfielder Denis Iguma has urged senior players to lead by example as the club looks to end a frustrating winless run that has piled pressure on the team and coach Charles Okere.
The Brewers have endured a tough start to the FKF Premier League season, failing to record a single victory in their first four matches. Their campaign began with a 2-0 defeat to KCB, followed by a 2-1 loss to Posta Rangers. Subsequent draws against Mathare United and Shabana FC have left them languishing in 17th place on the 18-team table with just two points.
With the team already eight points behind early leaders Posta Rangers, Tusker faces Murang’a Seal on Sunday in a must-win encounter. A poor result could intensify the pressure on Okere, who is still searching for his first win since taking charge.
Iguma, one of the club’s most experienced players, believes that senior squad members must take responsibility and help the younger players regain confidence. “These things happen in football and I have been in this situation several times. But it is up to us, the senior players, to guide the team through this phase,” said the Ugandan midfielder.
Despite the disappointing start, Iguma insists there are positive signs. “We have shown improvement in the last two games, and even in the matches we lost, we created many chances. It’s only a matter of time before we start converting them into wins,” he added.
The former Ugandan international has been among Tusker’s standout performers this season and is eager to help the team turn their fortunes around. With his current contract expiring at the end of the year, Iguma remains focused on helping the Brewers challenge for silverware.
“I have dreams and targets, and winning something with Tusker would be special. We have talented, ambitious young players, and if we keep believing, this season can still end with a trophy,” he concluded.
