The 2025 National Sevens Circuit is ready for kickoff with the electrifying Driftwood Sevens taking centre stage this weekend at the Mombasa Sports Club. Scheduled for July 26 and 27, this tournament marks the first leg of a six-stop rugby festival across Kenya and promises an action-packed start to the season.
The Kenya Rugby Union has confirmed the pool draws for both Division One and Division Two, setting the stage for fierce competition. In Division One, defending champions Kenya Harlequins headline Pool A, alongside MMUST, KU Blak Blad, and Mwamba RFC. This group is expected to deliver high-intensity matchups as teams seek an early advantage.
Pool B features Kenya Cup holders Kabras Sugar RFC, who will lock horns with Catholic Monks, Nakuru RFC, and Impala RFC in what is anticipated to be a tightly contested pool. Meanwhile, last year’s circuit runners-up KCB RFC are placed in Pool C, where they will battle Nondescripts RFC, Daystar Falcons, and hosts MSC Rugby.
Pool D rounds out Division One with Menengai Oilers, Strathmore Leos, Stallions Rugby, and Kabarak University. With evenly matched teams, the pool promises surprises and thrilling performances.
The Division Two segment is equally competitive, featuring 36 teams strategically placed into pools based on affiliation, regional representation, previous performances, and past circuit rankings. Six slots were dedicated to KRU affiliate clubs, seven to coastal region teams, four based on historical tournament results, and three determined by prior circuit leg standings.
In Division Two, Pool A includes AP Warriors, Kilifi Titans, Likoni RFC, and University of Nairobi Mean Machine. Pool B features Embu RFC, Kaya Rugby, North Coast Stormers, and MKU Thika. Homeboyz RFC leads Pool C against Jackals, NYS Eagles, and Makueni RFC.
Pool D brings together Kisumu RFC, KCNP, NYS Spades, and Sigalagala NP, while Pool E showcases South Coast Pirates, Vihiga Granites, Zetech Oaks, and Northern Suburbs.
As one of the most celebrated legs of the circuit, the Driftwood Sevens not only promises top-tier rugby but also unites the rugby community in a vibrant, festive atmosphere. With Mombasa hosting the opening leg, attention now turns to Nakuru, Nairobi, Embu, Machakos, and Kisumu for what is expected to be a gripping 2025 rugby season.
