England have extended an invitation to 19-year-old Saracens wing Noah Caluori to join their training squad after his extraordinary five-try performance against Sale in the Premiership. The young winger, who was making his first Premiership start, delivered a sensational display of speed, power, and aerial dominance during Saracens’ emphatic 65-14 victory.
Head coach Steve Borthwick named a 36-man squad for preparations ahead of the autumn internationals but made space for Caluori as a development player. The decision comes after widespread calls for the teenager’s inclusion following his breakout performance, which underlined his potential to thrive at international level. Caluori, standing at 6ft 5in, has already represented England at under-18 and under-20 levels and is now viewed as one of the country’s most promising attacking prospects.
While Caluori’s inclusion has generated excitement, the squad also features notable omissions. Back-rower Jack Willis has been left out after choosing to return to France, a decision that has seemingly influenced his exclusion from Borthwick’s plans. Meanwhile, Owen Farrell has not been selected despite being available again following his stint with Racing 92. The head coach instead opted for midfield options that include Fraser Dingwall, Ollie Lawrence, and Henry Slade, with Tommy Freeman continuing his transition to outside centre.
Slade, in particular, showcased superb form over the weekend, scoring 23 points as Exeter recorded a dominant 38-0 victory. Harlequins’ Chandler Cunningham-South also keeps his place despite suffering an injury scare at Sandy Park.
Injuries remain a concern for England ahead of their upcoming fixtures. Ben Curry, Ted Hill, and George Martin are still unavailable, leaving gaps in the back row and second row. Despite those setbacks, Borthwick’s squad looks strong and well-balanced, blending experienced internationals with emerging talents like Caluori.
England will open their autumn campaign with a clash against Australia at Twickenham on 1 November, followed by matches against Fiji on 8 November, New Zealand on 15 November, and Argentina on 23 November. The inclusion of Caluori provides an exciting subplot to England’s preparations, as the young winger seeks to make a lasting impression and potentially earn his first senior cap in the near future.
