Kenyan international Vincent Harper has officially signed a two-year contract with League Two side Walsall, with the club holding an option for a third year. The 24-year-old wing-back joins from League One’s Exeter City, where he made 65 appearances across two seasons.
Harper’s move marks a significant addition for Walsall as they look to bolster their squad ahead of the 2025/26 campaign. Despite interest from several League Two clubs, Harper was drawn to Walsall due to the club’s ambition and the positive impression left on him during a visit to the Bescot Stadium last season.
“I’m buzzing,” Harper said. “I’m happy to finally get it all sorted and I’m looking forward to getting started. Speaking to the gaffer and hearing what he’s got planned sold it to me. Playing here at the start of last season, I liked the vibe and the atmosphere, so when the opportunity came, I wanted to get involved straight away.”
Born in England but eligible to represent Kenya through his heritage, Harper was called up to the Harambee Stars squad for the first time in October 2023 for a friendly against Russia. Although he didn’t feature in the match, his inclusion signaled Kenya’s growing interest in players from the diaspora.
Harper plays as a left-sided wing-back and is known for his dynamic playing style. With speed, strength, and attacking intent, he brings both energy and balance to the flanks. “I like to defend, I like to attack I’m nice and dynamic and I like to have fun on the pitch. I want to do the best I can and help the team win games.”
Walsall Head Coach Mat Sadler welcomed the new addition, highlighting Harper’s experience at a higher level and his physical attributes. “Vincent is a very explosive wing-back with a very athletic profile. He’s quick, likes to get at his man, but he’s a very good one-v-one defender as well. He’s coming off the back of a strong run of games in League One and was highly sought after by a lot of clubs in our division. We’re really pleased to get him in.”
Harper began his career at Bristol City’s academy and spent time on loan with clubs such as Gloucester City, Weston-super-Mare, and Bath City before being released in 2021. A short stint with Chippenham Town preceded his move to National League side Eastleigh, where an impressive 2022–23 season, including four goals, earned him a move to Exeter.
Walsall are expected to continue reinforcing their squad in the coming weeks as they aim for a strong showing in the upcoming League Two season. Harper’s arrival is seen as a key step in that journey.
