Equatorial Guinea have unveiled a star-studded 24-man squad for their upcoming international friendly against Kenya’s Harambee Stars, set for Friday, November 14, 2025, at the Emir Complex in Turkey. The friendly forms part of the team’s preparation for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco and follows a November 12 match against Zambia.
The squad, led by head coach Juan Michá Obiang, blends experienced veterans with European-based talent, aiming to give the Nzalang Nacional a competitive edge ahead of AFCON. Notably absent is captain and talisman Emilio Nsue, who was the surprise Golden Boot winner at AFCON 2023 with five goals. Nsue’s absence is a significant talking point, though the squad remains formidable without him. Another key omission is midfielder Nabil, rested at the request of his club.
Despite these absences, the squad boasts several high-profile European players. Midfielders Omar Mascarell of RCD Mallorca and Pedro Obiang of AC Monza provide creativity and stability in the center of the park, while forward Josete Miranda from Greek side PS Kalamata adds attacking flair. In goal, Jesús Owono, on loan at FC Andorra from Alavés, offers reliable shot-stopping, supported by Manuel Sapunga and Aitor Embela.
The defense is anchored by Saúl Coco of Torino, alongside experienced campaigners Carlos Akapo and Esteban Orozco. The midfield is strengthened by the returning European-based stars, with support from domestic talents like Pablo Ganet, Alex Masogo, and Jannick Buyla. Upfront, Iban Salvador and Josete Miranda ensure the attack remains potent even without Nsue.
Harambee Stars will arrive in Turkey following their local camp, preparing for back-to-back friendlies against Equatorial Guinea on November 14 and Senegal on November 18. The clash promises to test Kenya’s squad against one of Africa’s more experienced and technically gifted lineups.
