The 2025 Formula 1 season is heading for a thrilling conclusion, with four races left and three drivers locked in an intense title fight. McLaren’s Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri are separated by just a single point at the top, while Red Bull’s Max Verstappen remains in contention, 36 points behind. It’s a showdown that could go down to the final lap in Abu Dhabi.
For much of the summer, it looked like McLaren’s title to lose. Their car has been consistently strong across most circuits, while Piastri’s consistency kept him neck-and-neck with Norris. However, Red Bull’s recent upgrades to the RB21 have reignited Verstappen’s hopes. The reigning champion has rediscovered pace and control, setting up a compelling three-way battle where form, weather, and fine margins could make all the difference.
The next round in São Paulo is expected to be decisive. The McLaren package should suit the flowing corners of Interlagos, but rain is in the forecast—a factor that could tilt the advantage toward Verstappen, who has a history of excelling in wet conditions. Should Red Bull convert that potential, Verstappen could cut the gap significantly before heading to Las Vegas.
The Vegas race, dominated by long straights and low downforce, is expected to play to Red Bull’s strengths. Verstappen will likely be the favourite there again, while McLaren may struggle to match his pace. That could hand the Dutchman crucial points in his bid for a remarkable late-season comeback.
Qatar, with its high-speed corners, should favour McLaren. Both Norris and Piastri have shown strong performance there before, and a solid result could restore momentum heading into the final race.
Abu Dhabi, the season finale, could prove decisive. Norris triumphed there last year and will be confident of repeating that feat. The McLaren’s balance and aero efficiency give him a slight edge, and with the championship likely to be on the line, his composure under pressure might be the difference.
If form holds, Norris looks set to edge out both Piastri and Verstappen to claim his first Formula 1 world championship title.
