Bruno Fernandes has revealed that he turned down a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia to continue pursuing his ambitions at Manchester United. The Portuguese midfielder, who is set to make his 300th appearance for the club in the Premier League clash against Brighton at Old Trafford, remains committed to achieving success with the Red Devils.
Despite United’s struggles in recent seasons, including a disappointing 15th-place finish in the league last year—their worst top-flight position since 1974—Fernandes insists his focus is on helping the team return to glory. The club also suffered heartbreak in the Europa League final, losing to Tottenham, which ended their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League.
During the summer, Fernandes attracted interest from Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal, who reportedly offered a substantial deal. However, the United captain rejected the offer, emphasizing his belief that his mission at Old Trafford is not yet complete.
Fernandes shared that his family played a major role in the decision. “The first thing my wife asked was whether I had achieved everything I wanted at the club,” he said, noting that the answer was no. He believes he still has unfinished business with the 20-time English champions, whose last league title came in 2013.
Known for his passionate and sometimes fiery demeanor on the pitch, Fernandes has faced criticism for his emotional reactions. Yet, manager Ruben Amorim views that intensity as part of what drives his captain’s relentless desire to win. Fernandes confirmed that both the manager and the club assured him he remains central to their long-term plans.
He added that he would only consider leaving if United decided to cash in on him. Until then, his commitment remains unwavering. Fernandes, who is under contract until 2027 with an option for an additional year, said he has no plans to discuss his future until after the World Cup next year.
“For now, I feel good here,” he stated. “I still want to achieve my dreams with this club. Any talks about the future can wait—my focus is entirely on helping Manchester United succeed.”
