Tommy Fleetwood produced a masterful display in Delhi to claim the DP World India Championship, securing a two-shot victory over Japan’s Keita Nakajima and adding another memorable chapter to his career. The Englishman, ranked world number five, closed with a stunning seven-under-par 65 to finish at 22 under, capturing his eighth DP World Tour title — and celebrating the triumph with his son, Frankie, on the 18th green.
Fleetwood entered the final round trailing Nakajima by two shots but quickly erased the deficit with a flawless front nine that included four consecutive birdies from the seventh hole. His precise iron play and calm putting kept the momentum going, leaving the chasers little room to catch up. Nakajima, who had been in command for much of the week, struggled to maintain his form under pressure and settled for a final-round 69.
Behind the leading pair, Shane Lowry, Alex Fitzpatrick, and Thriston Lawrence all finished tied for third after carding rounds of 65. Lawrence’s score featured a brilliant eagle at the 14th, while Lowry and Fitzpatrick showcased their consistency to stay within striking distance. Daniel Hillier of New Zealand made an early charge with six birdies on the front nine but faltered late, suffering a costly double-bogey seven on the par-five 14th, followed by further dropped shots on the closing holes.
Meanwhile, Masters champion Rory McIlroy endured a frustrating week, finishing tied for 26th at 11 under after a final-round 71 that included three bogeys. Despite flashes of brilliance, McIlroy struggled to find rhythm on the demanding Delhi course.
For Fleetwood, this victory carried extra meaning. Having claimed his first PGA Tour win earlier in the year at the Tour Championship to secure the FedEx Cup, he was determined to return to winning ways on the DP World Tour. More importantly, the triumph fulfilled a promise to his young son.
Fleetwood revealed that Frankie had recently told him he had never seen his father win in person and run onto the green to celebrate. Motivated by that touching remark, Fleetwood carried the thought all week — and made it a reality on Sunday. The emotional celebration between father and son marked not just another career milestone but a cherished family memory.
“It means so much,” Fleetwood said afterward. “That was really cool — exactly what I wanted to do all day.”
