Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, according to the Metropolitan Police. The alleged incidents reportedly took place between 2021 and 2022.
Partey, 32, is facing two charges of rape involving one woman, three charges of rape involving a second woman, and one charge of sexual assault involving a third woman.
The footballer has denied all allegations. His legal representative stated that he looks forward to the opportunity to clear his name in court.
Authorities have confirmed that support is being provided to the women who have come forward. The police have urged anyone with further information related to the case to contact detectives involved in the investigation.
An investigation was initially launched in February 2022 after the first report of rape was made. Following this, law enforcement gathered evidence and worked closely with prosecutors to determine the appropriate charges.
Partey is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed that the charges followed a careful review of the evidence presented by police. Prosecutors emphasized that the criminal proceedings are now active and that Partey, like any other defendant, is entitled to a fair trial under the law.
The CPS also stressed the importance of responsible public discussion about the case, urging people not to share content that could potentially compromise the legal process.
Following the end of the most recent football season, Partey’s contract with Arsenal expired and he is no longer affiliated with the club. During his time in North London, he was a regular fixture in the midfield, known for his physical presence and technical skill. He made 130 Premier League appearances for Arsenal and scored nine goals.
Partey began his career in Spain before making a high-profile move to Arsenal in October 2020. He was often praised for his composure on the ball and tactical awareness, becoming a key player under the management of Mikel Arteta.
A full Ghanaian international, Partey has also been a crucial member of his national team, representing Ghana in several international tournaments over the years.
As the legal case progresses, attention will remain on how the matter unfolds in court. Authorities are continuing their investigation and have reiterated their commitment to supporting all individuals impacted by the case.
