Former NFL quarterback and Fox Sports commentator Mark Sanchez has been arrested after being stabbed in downtown Indianapolis late Friday night. Authorities confirmed that Sanchez, who is currently recovering in the hospital, faces multiple misdemeanor charges, including battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication.
Police responded shortly after midnight to reports of a disturbance near West Washington Street and North Senate Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found two people injured—one of them identified as Sanchez. He was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition but has since been stabilized. The other individual involved sustained separate injuries, while a suspect connected to the incident was detained at the scene.
According to law enforcement officials, the 38-year-old broadcaster was arrested following an investigation and consultation with prosecutors. Although Sanchez remains hospitalized and has not yet been booked into the Marion County Adult Detention Center, authorities stated that the final decision on charges will be made by the county prosecutor’s office. They emphasized that the arrest is an accusation and that Sanchez is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The exact circumstances surrounding the altercation remain unclear. Reports indicate that the incident occurred in an alley near downtown Indianapolis, but police have not released further details about what led to the confrontation or the motive behind the stabbing.
Sanchez had been in Indianapolis ahead of Sunday’s matchup between the Colts and Raiders at Lucas Oil Stadium, which he was scheduled to cover for Fox Sports. He joined the network in 2021 as an NFL analyst and has since become a familiar face on both live game broadcasts and FS1 studio programs.
Before transitioning into broadcasting, Sanchez played ten seasons in the NFL, most notably with the New York Jets, where he led the team to back-to-back AFC Championship appearances. His career also included stints with the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos, and Washington. After retiring from professional football in 2019, he began working as a college football analyst before joining Fox Sports.
Away from his professional life, Sanchez married his wife, Perry, in 2023, and the couple shares three children. As investigations continue, officials have not yet provided a timeline for when Sanchez will be released from the hospital or appear in court.
