Kenya Police FC’s rise to claim their maiden FKF Premier League title is a story of resilience, belief, and unity. From languishing at the bottom of the table early in the season to lifting the trophy with a game to spare, their journey has been nothing short of remarkable. Defender Brian Okoth, who made his Harambee Stars debut earlier this year, has opened up on the key elements that helped turn their season around.
Okoth, whose goal secured a crucial win over Shabana to confirm Kenya Police as champions, emphasized that team spirit and togetherness were pivotal. According to him, while the coaching change brought much-needed structure, it was the bond among players that truly fueled their late surge. “The season has been tough. We faced our own challenges. We started bottom of the league and by the 10th match, we were still bottom,” he said. “But we had to come together as a group and decided to style up. It has helped us soar to the summit and maintain our status.”
The goal was even more special for Okoth as it came on Father’s Day. He dedicated the win and his decisive strike to his parents, expressing gratitude for their support throughout his football journey.
Kenya Police’s rise to the top is also a story of long-term investment. Since gaining promotion to the top flight four years ago, the club has poured significant resources into building a competitive squad. From player acquisitions to coaching staff and infrastructure, the club left no stone unturned in its bid to challenge the traditional powerhouses of Kenyan football.
They began the 2024/25 season under the guidance of Anthony ‘Modo’ Kimani but struggled to find form, resulting in his dismissal alongside his entire technical bench. That slump included a heartbreaking exit from the CAF Confederation Cup at the hands of Zamalek. But their fortunes changed with the appointment of Burundian tactician Etienne Ndayiragije last December. Under his leadership, the club found consistency, balance, and belief.
Okoth credits the squad’s camaraderie for sustaining the momentum through a difficult campaign. “The camaraderie and brotherhood that we generated has played a huge deal in making us league champions,” he explained.
Now, with continental football on the horizon and a championship title under their belt, Kenya Police FC has not only dethroned Gor Mahia but also positioned themselves as a force to be reckoned with in Kenyan football. Their dream of becoming one of the country’s elite has become a reality and if this season is anything to go by, it might just be the beginning of a lasting legacy.
