Veteran Spanish cyclist Mavi García produced a sensational solo ride to win the second stage of the 2025 Tour de France Femmes, marking a major highlight in her long career. The 41-year-old broke away from the peloton with 10km remaining on the 110.4km stage from Brest to Quimper and held off the chasers through a punishing final climb to secure victory.
García, riding for Liv-AlUla-Jayco, opened a gap of around 20 seconds on the final ascent and managed to preserve a narrow lead, crossing the finish line just three seconds ahead of her closest rivals. Her emotional triumph comes after a difficult season and years of near misses in similar solo breakaway attempts. The win revitalized her confidence and marked a powerful statement from one of the sport’s most experienced riders.
Behind García, Lorena Wiebes of SD Worx Protime sprinted to a second-place finish, while Kim Le Court Pienaar of AG Insurance-Soudal claimed third. The Mauritian rider’s consistency was rewarded with the overall leader’s yellow jersey, as she overtook the previous leader Marianne Vos, who finished fifth on the day.
France’s Pauline Ferrand-Prévot impressed once again, taking eighth after being involved in the key moves during the latter stages. The action intensified on the Côte du Chemin de Troheir climb, where local favourite Juliette Labous of FDJ-Suez sparked attacks on the second ascent. Her teammate and general classification contender Demi Vollering responded strongly, launching an acceleration with 5km to go. Vollering eventually finished seventh, right behind defending champion Kasia Niewiadoma of Canyon/SRAM, who secured sixth place.
The stage served as an early test of climbing strength and tactical skill, with multiple favourites showing their cards. As the race heads into stage three on Monday, the riders will face more undulating terrain before the crucial mountain stages later in the week, where the battle for the general classification is expected to intensify further.
