Gor Mahia picked up their first win of the 2025/26 SportPesa Premier League season with a commanding 2-0 triumph over Sofapaka at Dandora Stadium. Ghanaian forward Ebenezer Adukwaw was the hero of the afternoon, netting both goals as K’Ogalo bounced back strongly after losing their opening fixture.
The match began with Sofapaka settling quickly into their rhythm. Douglas Koech and Satala Djafari posed early threats, while Victor Odhiambo’s delivery nearly found Japheth Mzungu inside the box. However, Gor Mahia goalkeeper Brynne Omondi was alert to the danger, gathering comfortably. Joseph Kuloba also attempted a solo run at goal, only to be stopped by a timely challenge from Mike Kibwage.
Gradually, Gor Mahia grew into the game through Austine Odhiambo’s link-up play with Alpha Onyango and Enock Morrisson. Their persistence paid off in the 32nd minute. A corner from the right created chaos in the Sofapaka penalty area, and after a scramble, Adukwaw reacted fastest to bundle the ball past Victor Kamungo, giving K’Ogalo the breakthrough.
Moments later, Odhiambo had the chance to double the lead from the penalty spot after being fouled, but his tame effort was easily saved. Sofapaka tried to respond before halftime, with Roy Okal attempting a long-range strike, but Gor Mahia’s defence stood firm to head into the break 1-0 up.
The second half saw Sofapaka press forward in search of an equaliser, but they were punished on the counter. In the 55th minute, Adukwaw collected a pass from Odhiambo, turned swiftly, and unleashed a dipping strike from 20 yards that looped over Kamungo into the net, doubling Gor’s advantage.
From then on, Gor Mahia controlled the tempo, with Morrisson and Onyango orchestrating play in midfield. Sheriff Musa went close to adding a third, while substitute Christopher Ochieng nearly capped off the performance in stoppage time, forcing a strong save from Kamungo.
Despite late pressure and attacking changes from Sofapaka, K’Ogalo’s defence, marshalled by Kibwage and Bryton Onyona, held strong. The victory secured Gor Mahia’s first three points of the campaign and restored confidence in their pursuit of a strong season.
