Gor Mahia Football Club has officially commenced the process of recruiting a new technical team following a sweeping overhaul of its bench. This development comes in the wake of a disappointing 2024/25 campaign, during which the club failed to secure any silverware.
The club recently announced a mutual separation with Head Coach Zedekiah “Zico” Otieno and the entire technical staff, including team security personnel, effective July 2, 2025. The decision was driven by the club’s desire for a fresh direction after falling short in both the FKF Premier League and the FKF Cup. Gor Mahia lost the league title to Kenya Police and were defeated by Nairobi United in the cup final a double setback that ended their long-standing domestic dominance dating back to 2016.
In response to these setbacks, Gor Mahia is now seeking to revamp its technical leadership. The club is calling for applications for the positions of Head Coach and Assistant Head Coach, targeting professionals with the experience and vision to restore the club’s former glory and elevate its performance on the continental stage.
The Head Coach role demands a highly qualified and strategic leader capable of delivering consistent success. Candidates must hold a CAF A Pro Diploma or UEFA Pro License (or an equivalent certification). Additionally, they should have a minimum of eight years of experience coaching at top-tier football levels and a track record of winning league titles, domestic cups, or strong performances in continental competitions. Key responsibilities will include leading tactical and technical planning, designing training sessions, and making match-day decisions. Prior experience in African leagues and fluency in English, along with other languages, will be considered advantageous.
The Assistant Head Coach position is also open, with the club seeking a dynamic and disciplined professional to support the Head Coach in player development, match analysis, and overall team management. Applicants should hold at least a CAF B License, with a CAF A License seen as a strong advantage. A minimum of five years’ experience in a similar role is required, along with a deep understanding of modern football tactics and team development strategies.
Both roles offer competitive remuneration packages, with contract terms negotiable based on the experience and qualifications of the candidates. Gor Mahia emphasizes its commitment to assembling a competent and visionary technical team capable of revitalizing the club’s performance both locally and internationally.
Interested candidates are invited to submit their CVs, cover letters, and relevant coaching certifications via email. The application deadline for the Head Coach position is Monday, 10th July 2025, at 5:00 PM (EAT), while applications for the Assistant Head Coach role will be accepted until Thursday, 10th July 2025, at 5:00 PM (EAT).
