Gor Mahia enjoyed a brilliant October–November spell, going unbeaten in six consecutive league matches, and their impressive form has now been rewarded with a historic double in the newly introduced FKF Premier League monthly awards.
The club scooped both the Player of the Month and Coach of the Month accolades in the inaugural SportPesa League monthly awards, a clear reflection of their dominance early in the 2025/26 campaign.
Shariff Musa, who recently made his debut for the Harambee Stars against Equatorial Guinea, was named Player of the Month after edging out strong competition from AFC Leopards defender Vincent Mahiga and his teammates Enock Morrison and Michael Kibwage. The winger produced a standout month, registering a crucial goal and assist that played a key role in Gor Mahia’s victories over KCB, Posta Rangers, and Mathare United. His performances not only lifted the team but also made him the first-ever recipient of the award since SportPesa officially took over as the league’s title sponsor.
Head coach Charles Akonnor completed the club’s clean sweep after bagging the Coach of the Month award for October. The former Ghana national team tactician guided Gor Mahia to three straight wins, beginning with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over KCB at Dandora Stadium. This was followed by a dominant 3-0 win against Posta Rangers at Nyayo Stadium and a clinical 2-0 triumph over Mathare United at Kasarani.
October marked Akonnor’s first full month in charge, and his impact has been immediate. He has steadied the team, restored confidence, and lifted Gor Mahia back to the top end of the table as they establish themselves early contenders for the 2025/26 FKFPL title.
The new monthly award system is part of a partnership between SportPesa and analytics firm Tisini, which aims to elevate competitiveness in the league through deeper performance insights. Player and coach selection now incorporates data-backed evaluation, with fan voting contributing 20% to the final decision—an approach designed to boost engagement across the league.
With both awards heading to Gor Mahia, the 21-time champions have sent an early warning to rivals. Their start to the season not only highlights renewed ambition but also signals a team determined to reclaim its dominance in Kenyan football.
