Pep Guardiola has vowed to continue his mission at Manchester City, insisting he has “unfinished business” as he guides the team through another rebuilding phase. Now in his ninth season at the Etihad Stadium, the Spaniard remains driven to restore City to the summit after their first trophyless campaign in nearly a decade.
City endured a disappointing 2024–25 season, finishing third in the Premier League and failing to add silverware for the first time since Guardiola’s debut year in Manchester. However, signs of revival have emerged this season, with City going seven matches unbeaten across all competitions and closing the gap to leaders Arsenal to just three points.
Guardiola, whose contract runs until 2027, brushed off suggestions he might be ready for a break, instead expressing confidence in his side’s progress. “I see things we’re doing much better than last season,” he said. “There’s still plenty of room for improvement, and that gives me energy. It’s not job done — it’s completely unfinished business. That’s why I’m here.”
A central figure in City’s resurgence has been Erling Haaland, whose prolific start to the season has underpinned the team’s momentum. The Norwegian striker has already scored 21 goals in 12 appearances for club and country, powering Norway to the verge of their first World Cup since 1998. Guardiola, however, acknowledged that such a level of performance is “impossible” to sustain throughout the season.
“Haaland feels really good,” Guardiola noted. “His performance isn’t just about goals — he’s been outstanding in many aspects. Of course, his numbers will drop eventually, but when that happens, we’ll be there to support him. That’s the passion and mentality this team has — to stay united through good and bad moments.”
City face Everton next, with the Toffees missing Jack Grealish, who is ineligible to play against his parent club. Grealish has rediscovered his form since joining Everton on loan, a move Guardiola fully supports. “It’s what he wanted,” said the manager. “His impact has been massive since day one. He’s playing every game now, and it’s great to see him back to real business.”
As City look to regain their dominance, Guardiola’s commitment remains unwavering. His message is clear — the mission at Manchester City is far from complete, and the hunger for success burns stronger than ever.
