Kenyan footballers plying their trade abroad experienced contrasting fortunes over the weekend, with Timothy Ouma and Jonah Ayunga enjoying success while Joseph Okumu continues to battle a frustrating injury layoff.
Ouma Shines in Poland
Timothy Ouma had a memorable outing in Poland after starting for Lech Poznan in their 2-0 league victory over Bruk-Bet Termalica Nieciecza. The Kenyan midfielder played the full 90 minutes and impressed in the heart of midfield as his side bounced back to winning ways. Swedish forward Mikael Ishak scored both goals to secure the win, which lifted Lech Poznan into sixth place with 13 points from seven matches, four behind leaders Cracovia.
For Ouma, this was his first league start since joining on loan from Slavia Prague, and he has now featured in four of Poznan’s seven league games. His performance underlines the growing trust placed in him by the technical bench, with his ability to control play and link up midfield proving vital for the Polish giants.
Ayunga Helps St Mirren to Cup Semi-Final
In Scotland, striker Jonah Ayunga also had reason to celebrate after helping St Mirren advance to the semi-final of the Scottish League Cup. Ayunga started the match against Kilmarnock, which ended 2-2 in regular time, forcing penalties to decide the winner. St Mirren held their nerve in the shootout, claiming a 5-2 victory.
Although Ayunga did not get on the scoresheet, his work rate and physical presence troubled the Kilmarnock backline throughout the match. The victory means St Mirren are now one step away from a potential cup final, and Ayunga will be keen to play a decisive role in the coming stages of the competition.
More Frustration for Okumu
While Ouma and Ayunga are thriving, Joseph Okumu continues to endure a difficult spell in France. After Stade Reims were relegated from Ligue 1 last season, their campaign in the second division has been inconsistent. They have managed two wins, two draws, and suffered three defeats so far, with the latest setback coming in a 3-2 loss away to St Etienne.
Unfortunately for Okumu, he remains sidelined with a serious knee injury sustained in August. The setback could rule him out for most of the season, leaving Reims without one of their most dependable defenders. His absence is being felt as the French side struggles for stability in their push for a quick return to the top flight
