Ulinzi Stars winger Boniface Muchiri has outlined his ambitions for the season, drawing motivation from his impressive performances with Harambee Stars during the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN). After Ulinzi’s second league clash of the season against Kariobangi Sharks, Muchiri emphasized that the lessons he gained at the continental tournament will play a vital role in pushing the Soldiers to greater heights.
The midweek fixture at Ulinzi Sports Complex ended in a goalless draw, leaving the Soldiers with four points from their opening two matches. While disappointed not to secure maximum points, Muchiri preferred to see the positive side, pointing out that the team registered a clean sheet against one of the most possession-dominant sides in the league.
“We did not concede, which is a big plus for our defense and goalkeeper. As forwards, we must now focus on converting our chances so that we can turn such performances into victories,” Muchiri noted.
The winger believes Ulinzi contained Sharks effectively but admits there is room for improvement, especially in how the team utilizes possession. According to him, quicker ball circulation and sharper decision-making in the final third will be crucial if Ulinzi is to challenge for honors this season.
Muchiri’s CHAN 2024 campaign, where he delivered decisive assists and helped Kenya reach the quarter-finals, continues to fuel his confidence. His contributions during the tournament not only earned him national recognition but also led to his promotion within the Kenya Defence Forces, where he now serves as a Corporal.
As captain of Ulinzi Stars, Muchiri is determined to build unity within the squad and ensure every player feels empowered to express themselves on the pitch. He insists that team harmony and individual freedom will be the foundation of Ulinzi’s resurgence.
“Every player must feel valued and free to express himself on the pitch. That is the only way we can get the best out of each other,” he explained.
On a personal level, Muchiri has set ambitious goals for the campaign. He is targeting at least 10 goals and 10 assists, aiming to lead by example in both creativity and finishing. With his leadership, experience, and hunger, Muchiri is confident Ulinzi Stars can rediscover their glory days and reestablish themselves as a force in Kenyan football.
